Going for the Green!

There are endless possibilities when juicing and it's all a matter of taste. Ron prefers jalapeno peppers to add kick to his juice while I prefer ginger. That's what is so great about making your own juice . . . you can add whatever you want!
This morning I decided I wanted to make a green juice since all week long they've been pretty much the same orange color. I chose fruits and vegetables that were either green, white or yellow and it worked! I was tempted to throw in the rest of the raspberries, but I decided to save them until tomorrow.
Ron's post -it note this morning on the camera said "This was actually good!" He underlined "good" for emphasis. As always, I will show his photos first, then mine.
One thing I learned today . . . spinach doesn't juice very well. I saw most of it go into the roughage bin. Oh well, I tried. We eat a spinach salad twice a week and put it on our pizza once a week, so it's not like we aren't getting enough spinach.
I really liked my green juice this morning. It was very refreshing!

The Best Juice So Far!

I woke up this morning and there was a post-it note attached to our camera that said "This is the best juice so far." I love my husband. He not only took time to juice before going to work so early in the morning, but he took extra time and took some pictures.  I don't expect him to do that, but that's just the kind of guy he is.
I'll share the photos he took first, then mine. I changed a few ingredients in my juice, but it's pretty close. This was the first time we used organic pineapple and it really adds sweetness to the mix. The raspberries don't add a lot of juice, which surprised me.

Getting the Hang of Juicing!

It's our fourth day of juicing and I can honestly say I'm loving it! I know it's crazy to say I can actually feel the juice nourishing my body, but that's how it feels when I'm drinking each glass of juice.
Today's breakfast was pretty much the same as yesterday, but I added half a Roma tomato and a kiwi.
Ron had exactly the same juice an hour before I made mine. He emailed me from work to tell me it was the best tasting juice yet, so I had to try it. It was good. The tomato doesn't really add that much flavor, but it does make a lot of juice.
Today I'm heading to Whole Foods to buy produce for the next couple of days. I have found they have the best selection of Organic produce and the prices are reasonable. The store is also very clean, which makes a difference to us. Last weekend we stopped at an indoor local Farmer's Market and we were appalled at the garbage on the floor. There were greens and smashed tomatoes all over the produce department. I don't know about you, but I'd rather spend a little bit more rather than buy in that kind of atmosphere. Plus, nothing was organic.

Rule #1 . . . ALWAYS Replace the Pitcher before Juicing!

This morning was our first morning to juice separately. Ron leaves for work about a half hour before I wake up so he is choosing his own breakfast juice and when I get up I choose my own.
This morning I couldn't wait to see what he made so I got up as soon as I heard the juicer.
Ron made a wonderful combination of apple, celery, carrot, tomato and half a jalapeno pepper. He threw in some salt for added flavor. I tasted it and it was good!
I did a similar drink except I used pear, celery, carrot, blueberries and the other half of his jalapeno. I read where hot peppers help clear out your sinuses and I need that after working an entire day at the Estate Sale Warehouse. I'm allergic to dust and I was sneezing all day.
Mine was so good I decided to make another one. This time I replaced the jalapeno with an inch of raw ginger. I had rinsed out the pitcher that attaches to the Breville Juicer and left it in the sink. Well .....I got busy washing and scrubbing the fruits and veggies and forgot to put the pitcher next to the spout. Thank God I noticed it right away. I just had a little puddle of blueberry juice and was tempted to lick it off the counter but was afraid the dog walkers would see me through the window and think I was a crazy lady.
Lesson learned.
It's been an hour since I drank my two glasses of juice and I am still full.

The Mother Load!

We just made a Cabbage Cocktail from The Juicing Bible, but we have renamed this to THE MOTHER LOAD!
This juice had an apple, carrots, celery, garlic, fennel, red cabbage, beets and a cucumber.
We waited till the end to add the fennel since we aren't used to eating fennel raw. It did give the drink a bit more sweetness, which was a surprise to us.

We used red cabbage and we wonder what it would have looked like if we had used green.
All in all, this drink was okay if you like drinking medicine. It was so packed full of nutrients that it kinda sticks to your ribs on the way down and we had to force ourselves to drink all of it. Well, Ron drank all of his, I couldn't drink it all.
I'm thinking it's a good thing we are staying in today, just in case ....

Pomegranate Please?

It's Saturday morning and I have to go work at an Estate Sale. Usually it's hard to take time to eat while working the sales, so we want to make sure there are plenty of vitamins packed into our juice this morning.
I had made a trip to Whole Foods a couple of days ago and picked up a pomegranate so I was eager to see what it would taste like juiced.

Well, all I can say is, make sure you follow the instructions for all of the fruit and veggies you put in your juicer. We cut the pomegranate in half and put it in the juicer, skin and all. Later, we read where you are supposed to peel it. Oh well. It still tasted good and we are both still living, so I guess it was okay.

The combination of apples, celery, carrots, pomegranates and kiwi was pretty good. There was a definite tart taste to it, but that may have been from the peel.

The color was appealing and we will make this drink again for sure . . . minus the peels this time.

Juicing for Newbies!

Okay, our Breville Juicer finally arrived this evening. The notice said "by the end of the day" and they were sure right about that! We were finishing our homemade pizza when the doorbell arrived with our new addition.
It didn't take long to take it apart and clean it. I was pleasantly surprised.
Our first drink was a combination of carrots, apples and celery. This was recommended to us by my son, Dug, who has been an avid juicer for several years.
We were surprised how you could pick out the flavors of each ingredient. It is SO MUCH different that the fruit juices you buy in the stores. We took our time and savored each sip. Well, Ron did, anyway. I took my supplements with mine and drank it rather quickly.
After finishing these drinks I wanted to take it apart and clean it myself since I will be the one doing that in the mornings. It was a piece of cake! So easy to clean and the stainless steel parts were well made. The engineering on this juicer is amazing. We even love the plug. It has a finger hole for easy removal.
We can't wait to try lots of recipes. I made a trip to Whole Foods yesterday and bought all organic fruits and vegetables. I plan to shop every two or three days so our produce is always fresh.

We hope you enjoy the recipes and ideas that we plan on sharing in our new juicing adventure. I know we will!

We love the color of this delicious drink. Reminds us of orange sherbert

It has a nice frothy top and tasted fantastic!
